Join in "A Million Acts of Hope" this week and beyond.

May 14, 2026

A Million Acts of Hope is a UK-wide campaign led by a collection of charities, faith groups and community organisations to create, celebrate, and inspire A Million Acts of Hope across Britain. The initiative invites everyone to take a stand against hate, intolerance and division, and focuses on a week of action in May “to celebrate all those showing hope, compassion and kindness in the face of hate”. Will you join?

Have you heard about A Million Acts of Hope?

This week, local community groups, organisations and residents across the country are coming together to share small acts of kindness, connection and hope. For many people, recent times have felt difficult, uncertain and at times quite heavy. This campaign is about reminding ourselves that communities still have the power to care for one another and create positive change locally.

At Compost London, we know many local groups are already carrying out “acts of hope” every day, often without recognition. Whether it is supporting isolated residents, creating safe spaces for young people, helping families through difficult times, bringing communities together across cultures, or simply checking in on someone who is struggling — small things that really matter.

Strong communities are built when local people and local organisations take shared responsibility for the places they live in and the people around them. Community power starts locally, through relationships, trust and everyday action.

An act of hope does not need to be complicated or expensive. It could be:

  • bringing people together for a conversation
  • creating a welcoming community space
  • supporting someone experiencing hardship or discrimination
  • helping neighbours feel less isolated
  • creating opportunities for people to listen to one another properly

Small actions can make a big difference.

The A Million Acts of Hope website includes ideas, resources and ways for local groups and organisations to get involved throughout the week. We would encourage community organisations, networks and residents across Newham and beyond to take part in whatever way feels right for your community. Don't forget to tell us about your "Act of Hope".

Because hope grows when people connect and work together.
